Mogadishu (RBC) The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns in the strongest terms possible the shooting to death of the Radio Director in Mogadishu’s Nasteho neighborhood on Saturday evening 28 January, 2012.

Two unknown gunmen armed with pistols shot five rounds and killed Hasan Osman Abdi (Fantastic), director of Radio Shabelle near his home in Nasteeho neighborhood in Mogadishu on Saturday evening January 28, 2012, according to witnesses.

The gunmen immediately fled from the area, according to Shabelle radio. It is not yet clear the reason behind his killing.

He was rushed to Madina Hospital, where he was declared dead. Abdi, 30-yrs, survived by a wife and three children – two girls and a boy

“We condemn the shooting incident that killed our colleague.” Mohamed Ibrahim, NUSOJ Secretary General said, “We send our deepest condolences and sympathies to the families and friends who might miss him, while we call the Transitional Federal government to investigate the shooting to death of the journalist.”

Somalia is one of the dangerous countries to be a journalist. Last year, three journalists have been killed in Mogadishu alone.
