60-migrants reach Malta
Malta (RBC) A group of 60 migrants claiming to be from Somalia and Eritrea reached Maltese shores yesterday morning.
The dinghy with 49 men and 11 women was spotted by the Armed Forces of Malta around55 nautical miles south of Malta. An army plane was dispatched and the boat was located by a patrol boat.
The migrants requested assistance because of the deteriorating weather conditions.
Ransoms are being negotiated and families live in hope as more ships are attacked. It’s a vicious cycle and the UAE hopes the second counter piracy conference beginning today will provide a regional response to end the phenomenon.
