Hargeysa (RBC) British Ambassador to Somalia has announced his country’s intention to open a consulate in Hargeisa, the Somaliland Press reported Thursday (July 19th).
Matt Baugh, the British Ambassador to Somalia, announced at Hargeisa’s recent book fair that the new consulate will oversee the delivery and implementation of British interest and development projects, and promote relations between Hargeisa and British partners.
The consulate will operate under the future British embassy in Mogadishu. The British embassy for Somalia is primarily working from Nairobi at the moment, with a facility in Mogadishu, according to the BBC.
Baugh, appointed earlier this year, is Britain’s first ambassador to Somalia in 21 years.
