SOMALIA: TV journalist escapes assassination attempt in Mogadishu
Mogadishu (RBC) A Somali TV journalist escaped assassination attempt in Mogadishu on Saturday after armed men attacked him, RBC Radio reports.
Abdulkadir Omar Abdulle, better known as Kuwaral was shot by two men armed with pistols shortly after he left from his station office and was heading to his home in Wadajir district, south of Somalia capital Mogadishu, his colleague Mohamed Mohamud told RBC Radio this evening.
“Mr Abdulle has sustained bullet wounds from his chest, head and the left leg as he was rushed to the hospital” he added “Two armed men approached him and begun shooting before he reached the home as they immediately run from the scene”.
The assailants were not captured and no police reached the area.
The wounded journalist is reportedly still in unconscious state and being admitted in Medina hospital.
The National Union of Somali Journalists has condemned the attack.
“We are very saddened by such attacks against the free press in Somalia and this shows how risky condition the journalists are facing.” Abdiradhid Abdulle, NUSOJ acting secretary general told RBC Radio on the phone.
At least six journalists were killed and two others wounded in Somalia since the start of this year.
