Mogadishu (RBC) The newly elected presidential committee has on Friday officially announced the presidential election date. RBC Radio reports.

The Somali electoral commission met on Friday at the Somali conference hall and officially announced that the presidential election will be held on September 10th. The committee also announces that in between the first and sixth of September, they will collect and accept applications of those presidential hopeful candidates.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the electoral commission Osman Libah Ibrahim said that on Saturday (tomorrow) they will announce conditions for any candidate willing to run for the presidential post.

Presidential hopeful candidates

Outgoing Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, the outgoing Somali parliament speaker Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, and a former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo are perceived by many as the top four candidates for the Somali presidency. Although there are many other candidates who are running for the post.

Analysts say that Somalis during this year’s election expect to see new faces and educated people with majority youth and public support gain power so that issues like illiteracy and poverty may be best addressed.
