OPINION

Given the situation in Mogadishu in particular and the country in general, it is indisputable that the presidential candidates need their security taken care of. If there is nobody that can take care of security, then the safety of the candidates can fall into jeopardy.

Providing security to the candidates

Providing the security of the candidates is something that is obvious and there is no argument of whether it makes sense or not; as a matter of fact , providing security to the candidates is a must.

How to provide that security

How to provide the security needed to the candidates is not a rocket science and all you need is human resources and the weapons and the money necessary to safeguard the safety of the candidates.

Who should provide the security

The Somali Transitional Federal government seems unable to provide the security of the candidates, at least all of them. And the outside world seems not bothered or not considerate about the safety of candidates who are coming to Mogadishu with their own will.Furthermore, AMISOM, the African force on the ground, might be in no position to guard Somali candidates in their totality because there are too many candidates already on the ground and it entails a spectrum of logistics and planning for AMISOM to take the obligation to guard candidates.

Candidates coming up with their own body guard militia

If nobody else can or is not willing to take care of the security of candidates, then it cannot be termed as an unwise choice for candidates themselves to build their own security groups, because, in common sense, losing one’s life due to lack of security is avoidable. One can do it themselves.

A simple warning

If the choice of building a security millia by each candidate, who affords, is unavoidable, as it looks so far, then registering those militia with a supervisory entity is advisable so that different body guard militiamen can recognize each other to avoid clashes as it happened before between president Sharif’s militia and that of ex-prime minister, Mohamed Abdulahi Farmaajo.
