SOMALIA: Landmine explosions target Amisom and TFG forces in Mogadishu
Mogadishu (RBC) At least two landmine explosions have targeted African Union peacekeepers [AMISOM] and Somali government forces in Mogadishu late on today Thursday, RBC Radio reports.
The first explosion occurred near Ex-contorol Bal’ad at Mogadishu’s Huriwa district late on this afternoon. Eyewitnesses told RBC Radio that they saw a casspir belonged to AMISOM’s Burundian contingent.The eyewitnesses could not confirm the casualties.
A second blast was heard at Dayniile district after the Maqrib prayer where the base of the government forces is reportedly under attack. The RBC Radio correspondent says the explosion could be heard from far places.
Al-Shabab’s twitter page suddenly reported the explosions as they claimed that at least three Burundian soldiers were killed in both blasts.
“At least 3 Burundian soldiers were killed in the 2nd explosion & several injured when an IED struck them as they rushed towards the scene” one of the twitter quotes read.
There were no any comments available from AMISOM officials in Mogadishu.
