Somalia: Poor planning nearly marred inauguration
Raxanreeb (Mogadishu) The committee tasked to plan and smoothly conduct the presidential inauguration ceremony held in Mogadishu yesterday is now under fire for poor planning. At one point committee members were seen haphazardly allocating seats to foreign dignitaries. There was no a written seating plan for dignitaries.
The poor planning of the ceremony came to light again when people saw porters carrying chairs for the outgoing president, the incoming president and the parliamentary speaker. A source close to the organising committee told Raxanreeb the propemlem was caused ” by failure to divide tasks. Some people were doing same tasks whereas some tasks were left undone”.
Poor planning manifested itself in the presence for various groups of bodyguards- body-guards for the incoming president and outgoing president, bodyguards for the the prime minster and bodyguards the foreign heads of state delegates brought with them.
The Somali bodyguards had handguns although people attending the ceremony were thoroughly searched.
