SPORTS: Narrow win for Elman over FC Dekedaha
Muqdisho (RBC) Somalia’s defending champions Elman FC have narrowly escaped on Monday during a match that seemed to be ending in equality when they scored the winning goal in the 90th minute of the clash against FC ports that ended in 3-2 in favour of Elman.
Monday’s match which attracted the attention of tens of thousands of fans across the Somali capital and surrounding regions, was described as the most competitive match since the country’s division A league resumed in capital last month.
The match started with successive attacks on each other’s goals, as Elman were committed to winning the match to be 7 points ahead next team, while the FC ports who are running from relegating to the second division was doing its best to win.
However none of the two clubs happened to score a single goal in the first half of the match which ended in 0-0 draw. In the 50th minute of the second half Elman striker Abdulkader Ahmed scored the opening goal for his club, but Abdulkader Ali Nur of the FC Ports equalised in the 79th minute.
After the equalising goal the whole stadium became very uproarious with all fans stood up chanting slogans to support each club.
Elman and national team striker Mohamed Nur Abdi scored the second goal for his team in the 81st minute of the second half, but FC Ports equalised in the 85th minutes of the match. The goal was scored by Zakariye ABdi Siyad.
Both clubs stepped up counter attacks each wanting to win. The uproar of the zealous fans could be heard from far areas. However as the referee was about to whistle the end of the match whistle in the 90th minute of the match Elman’s Badri Moalim Ahmed scored the winning goal for his team and the match ended in 3-2 in favour of Elman FC
