SOMALIA: Federal Parliament applauds the election of the new Puntland Parliament Speaker
Mogadishu (RBC) During the conclusion of their third session, today the Federal Parliament of Somalia congratulated the election of the Parliament Speaker in the Semi-autonomous State of Puntland on the Northeast of Somali, RBC Radio reports.
The session attended by more than 160 MPs, the Speaker of the Federal Parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari said that they were very excited and satisfied by the transparency and fair election in Garowe yesterday where the 66 Members of Puntland’s House of Representatives elected MP Said Hassan Shire as the new Speaker.
“The transparency, free and fair process which the election of Puntland region’s parliament took place is not only a proud for the people of Puntland but also for the whole Somali people.” the Speaker of the Federal Parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari said.
He has called Puntland’s new parliament to continue conducting its tasks ahead of the presidential election and maintain the peaceful process seen in the region.
“I also call the other parts of the Somali Republic to work to form their local administrations in a democratic way.” Speaker Jawari added.
Members of the Parliament in Somalia’s Semi-autonomous State of Puntland are preparing to elect new president on Wednesday (January 8th) after electing the Parliament Speaker and two Deputies in hot election on Saturday, RBC Radio reports.
Said Hassan Shire, an MP at the state’s new House of Representatives and a renowned politician was elected as the new Parliament Speaker leading the parliament in the coming five years.
Abdihamid Abdisalam was elected as the Second Deputy Speaker while Hussein Yasin Diriye was elected as the Third Deputy Speaker. Both men are new to the region’s political process.
More 10 candidates are anticipated to run for the upcoming presidential election on Wednesday, according to presidential election committee. The new leader will be elected by the 66 members of the clan representatives selected by the traditional elders.
