SOMALIA: Puntland’s House of Representatives begin to listen speeches by the presidential candidates
Garowe (RBC) The new Parliamentarians of the Puntland State in the north of Somalia have started on Tuesday to listen speeches by eleven presidential candidates ahead of the presidential election on Wednesday, RBC Radio reports.
The presidential candidates gave speeches explaining their political programs criticizing the current administrations poor performance.
Security was extremely tightened as hundreds of armed forces were deployed in the town of Garowe, the state’s capital.
The outgoing president Abdurahman Farole, Former Somali Interim Prime Minister Abdiweli Gaas, famous businessmen and former ministers are amongst those running for the state’s presidency.
The new parliament members consisting of 66 selected by clan-elders will elect the new state’s leader which will take office in a term of five years.
