SOMALIA: Bomb explosion targets police station, 3 dead in Kismayo
KISMAYO (RBC Radio) At least three police officers killed and twenty others injured after a grenade bomb explosion targeted a police station in the city centre of Kismayo on Monday, local officials and eyewitnesses told RBC Radio.
According to a senior security official, the bomb planted inside the station went off as the police music band members were making rehearsal preparation to welcome Somalia Federal President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
The President is supposed to visit the town this week as his first visit to the southern port town since his election as President in February 8.
Kismayo is the seat of Jubbaland administration.
Most of those wounded were in critical condition, health worker at the main hospital where those wounded were admitted told RBC Radio.
The local security forces cordoned off the blast scene and started investigation.
Al-Shabab militants claimed the responsibility of the blast through its affiliate radio Andalus.
