SOMALIA: Gunmen shot dead police officer in Bosasso
BOSASSO (RBC Radio) Residents in Bosasso said gunmen have shot and killed Bosasso deputy police commissioner on Wednesday a day after unidentified gunmen shot a prominent businessman in the Puntland’s commercial hub.
The Bosasso deputy police commissioner Omar Dhere was shot near the Central Police Station by at least two men armed with pistols before the assailants fled.
According to police source, the officer was at a nearby cafeteria and was not armed when the armed men attacked him.
The police indicated suspicion of the attackers may have linked to al-Shabab militant group which wages attacks against officials in the region.
Armed police reached the scene of the shooting and started to search the attackers, despite no arrests reported yet.
The killing of the Bosasso deputy police commissioner comes barely a day after unidentified gunmen shot dead a a local businessman Mahdi Baradho in the city.
No group yet claimed both killings.
