Somalia: Puntland Accuses Ethiopia Troops of Killing (RBC NEWS)

The authorities in the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland have accused Ethiopian troops of killing people in the central town of Galka’io the capital region of Mudug, RBC Radio reports.

Puntland police commander Col. Ahmed Ali Afey has accused the Ethiopian troops who passed from the border entered with out order in Galkaio town last night killing one person and wounding three others.

Mr. Afey held a press conference in Bosaso has said the Ethiopian troops also kidnapped several people and went away with out informing the authorities in the area.

“The government of Puntland is much concerned about what had happened in Galkaio last night and we appealed to federal government of Ethiopia demanding urgent reply about this case”, Col. Ahmed Afey said.

The police commander also said that the government of Puntland will not accept like this case to be carried out in its territory saying it hurts the dignity of the administration which is part of Somalia, but not Ethiopia.

“We will not accept like these acts that had been done by Ethiopian troops, they entered our territory with out informing the administration… it is wrong action”, he said adding that there is an investigation about how this action had occurred. 

“We are now investigating the case and the responsibility will be taken by any one who made this action”, Col. Ahmed Afey said in an angry voice.

The minister of the security of Puntland Gen. Abullahi Said Samatar has condemned this action also.

Galkaio residents said Ethiopian troops entered the northern side of the town where they had attacked a home of Somali business man,  they killed one person and wounded three others.

No one knows who was the dead man but locals say he was one of Galkaio residents.

Ethiopia already signed a security collaboration with Puntland but lately the relation between the two sides was not well.

The governor of Mudug region Ahmed Ali Salad told RBC Radio that the Ethiopian troops also went away with some people.

The residents had got frightened about this action and condemned it.

Ethiopia intervened Somalia late 2006 to help TGF forces against Islamist groups.
