Somalia: Mogadishu Mayor says People are dying of Starvation (RBC NEWS)

MOGADISHU, (RBC Radio) The mayor of Somalia capital Mogadishu, Mohammed Osman Ali Dhagahtur has seriously warned what he said is “a starvation” caused by famine which the Mogadishu residents are dying, RBC Radio reports.
The Mogadishu mayor who held press conference in his office said 30% of the people already begin to die of starvation because of famine and malnutrition.
“About 30% of the displaced die daily of starvation and many others are in critical condition”, the mayor said in his press release.
Mr. Dhagahtur called for the aid agencies to help the bothered people giving possible aid.
Nearly 2 million displaced from the fighting in capital those are living very poor condition especially the places where the IDPs locate.
Residents say adults and children in the IDP camps died in this week and died of famine, water shortage and outbreak of acute of water diarrhea in the areas between Afgoi and Mogadishu.
Mr. Dhagahtur expressed deeply concern about the situation and asked for urgent help.
Some 1.1 million people in Somalia have been driven from their homes, including thousands who have fled intensified fighting in the capital Mogadishu between Islamist rebels and the government forces, according to UN.
Some 3.2 million Somalis are among an estimated 19 million people in the Horn of Africa in urgent need of life-saving food assistance.
