Somalia: Islamist Group Joins Al Shabab’s Led Fighting

The announcement comes days after long discussions between top leaders from the two groups, whom are accused to be linking to al Qaeda network. The talks were going in the Baidoa town sources close to Al Shabab revealed.
A large ceremony organized by the two groups had been produced three articles in which they said was an agreement between Al Shabab extremists and Raskamboni group, led by Sheikh Hassan Abdullahi (known as Hassan Turki). Sheikh Hassan Turki is one the senior Islamist leaders which US government is searching.
Sheikh Fu’ad Kalaf, a senior official from Al Shabab had read a written communiqué’ which the both sides had signed together.
The articles contained that the two groups will unite under the name of ‘Al Shabab’.
They also agreed to continue their fighting against Somali government and AMISOM troops in the country, which they described “as jihad war”. While they said they were on process to form an Islamic government in the whole east Africa.
Among the signers of this agreement was Sheikh Mukhtar Abu Zubeir, head of Al Shabab and Sheikh Hassan Turki f the Raskamboni group.
The RBC Radio correspondent says the agreement between Al Shabab and Raskamboni seems to be undermining Hisbul Islam group, which was already united with four rebel functions. One of them was Raskamboni group based in the lower region of the southern part of the country.
Somali government which has the backing of the international community has not yet said its decision against this announcement.
