SOMPED criticises and Calls for urgent Investigation of the Attack on Ahmed Nur Ibrahim
The chairman of Somali Media, Peace and Developments (SOMPED) has criticized and demanded urgent investigation on the attack against local radio reporter, Ahmed Nur Ibrahim who was badly beaten by court judge commander and his body guards, February 24.
Ahmed Nur Ibrahim (known as Ahmed Somali) who works for radio Daljir was attending in a court hearing on Wednesday when five soldiers who are guards for Ahmed Taran, Bosasso court judge had beaten him badly causing several injuries on the head and chest, Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed, the director of radio Daljir has confirmed.
The attack came after the chairman of the court ordered the local and international journalists to cover at the court hearing where to be started on time but Ahmed Taran, a man notorious for inhumanity acts had refused the journalists to record the voices in the hall of the court.
“When we were ordered not to record anything we had to follow, and we were to go out of the court, but unfortunately Ahmed Taran had begun slapping me on the face and kicked me on the chest”, said Ahmed Nur Ibrahim speaking to SOMPED with a weak voice.
“He slapped me several times and also kicked me on the chest, then his body guards begun beating me with guns”, he added.
Ahmed Nur Ibrahim is also a correspondent for UN news agency IRIN based in Nairobi.
“SOMPED denounces this cruel attack against the journalists. The lack of accountability that allows Puntland soldiers to do anything to anybody is intolerable”, said the chairman of SOMPED, Farah Atto.
The chairman of SOMPED demanded an investigation on this attack and also must be accountability for severe human rights violations committed by Puntland soldiers.
