Shabeellaha Hoose — The Somali National Army (SNA), led by the elite Gorgor Commandos, conducted a major security operation on Sunday in the areas of Calanley, Masaale, and Ruun-Shiiqow in the Middle Shabelle region.

The operation targeted locations where Al-Shabaab militants were reportedly engaged in activities aimed at destabilising security and extorting local residents.

Lieutenant Colonel Mukhtaar Ahmed Omar, Commander of the 191st Battalion under the 19th Gorgor Brigade, confirmed to state media that the forces successfully executed their mission.

According to the commander, troops destroyed several Al-Shabaab hideouts during the sweep and are now pursuing militants who fled the area.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts to restore security and protect civilians across Middle Shabelle.
